Stumptown and more

I got back not so long ago from a comic book convention in Portland. The event was called "Sumptown" and it was a comic book convention for independent comic book artists only.

There was some pretty cool stuff there and I made some great observations about the crowd.

One thing that stood out to me most was how anti social most artists are. We're all, prettey introverted. You take about 500 or so people and throw them into a room and you get awesome.

It was so akward talking to people because I'd walk up to a persons little table and I'd be thinking "Man I hope this guy doesn't talk to me" and I bet the dude behind the counter was thinking "Man I hope this guy doesn't talk to me". At that moment you get this odd moment of recognition. You both make eye contact but don't say much outside of that.

As another person with BO roars by, you make your quick exit. Both of you are in the clear, for now.

That to me, was so sweet. I loved that. I like that.

Outside of all the BO, musk, Nerds, Beard-o's, butch lesbians and the bearded lady at the convention, I had a good time.

Its getting me really excited to start work on my comic. I'll have to re-write the script after talking with Karl. I don't blame him for thinking it wasn't so cool right off the bat. Thats what happens when you pick up something you wrote about 3 years ago and try and turn it into something. Not as cool.

Well, I think thats all the time I have for today. Enjoy your time.
